Military Academy CFA

The Service Academy Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) is designed to measure strength, agility, power, balance, speed, and endurance. The CFA is used to predict a candidate’s aptitude for the physical programs of the service academies.

There are six fitness events: Kneeling Basketball Throw, Pull-Ups or Flexed Arm Hang (women’s alternative), Shuttle Run, Modified Sit-ups, Push-Ups, One-Mile Run.

  • Flexed Arm Hang*

*Women’s alternative for Cadence Pull-Ups (If you cannot complete at least 1 pull-up). Hold for as long as possible.

  • Shuttle Run

40-yard shuttle, completed 4 times 10 yards for each turn around

  • Push-ups

02:00 minutes to perform as many repetitions as possible

You will need to gather and prepare all test equipment before beginning the test. You will need a men’s basketball, a 100-foot measuring tape, and a pull-up bar. You will need a friend to help you film and another friend to measure the distance for the basketball throw. You will also need GPS tracking enabled on your device for the 1 mile run.

Each exercise is based on a 100-point maximum score. Once you have achieved the maximum performance requirement, completing additional repetitions will not improve your score.
